Richard [Ritch]'s Story
Life
I was born in Coal Center,at 184 Spring st. Had a great childhood doing the things that created wonderful memories of a place that will never be again. We never had much more than we needed, I never missed it, but we used something kids today do not, and can not buy....imagination!
I still go back, and walk through the towns, remembering swimming the river at the beach on the bend of the Mon.,near the ferry in Coal Center, or down at the warf in California. ( Now theres a word I haven't used since then! ).
Hopping trains, the smell of popcorn at the Hollywood theater, setting pins at the bowling ally, racking balls at the pool hall for Chief & Hobie, Cuppies drive-in, Alfano's pizza, Tremblie bus service, the Company store, surplus food, Green stamps, the 5 & 10, A & P, penny candy, Stockdale dances, Porky Chedwick, deposit for bottles, mallo cup & baseball cards, the fireman's bazaar, homecoming, Xmas treats, Redstone candy, and the most special memory... KENNYWOOD PARK!.
My first trips were by train then bus.I go back every year, sometimes more, I still love to ride, & it's still my favorite park. It's funny, you remember walking around looking at a...Expand for more
ll the OLD people sitting under the trees, and now that's the spot I find my classmates!
I became a collector of MY PAST, junk, trash, to others...memories to me. WELL! It seems others also collect,& that junk was worth alot more than I thought.Damn,if we would have known that then!.
So this 2nd 1/2 of my life is being spent living off selling my memories at, Flea Markets, Auctions, Garage sales, and Ebay! That, & my music!.
My family moved to Ohio in '64,I stayed with my aunt to finish high school. Playing music for a living has taken me places, & let me see & do things I never thought possible. I remained single till '86, & have been divorced since 90, no children,( that I know of ), hey, I am a musician!. I keep thinking if I hit the lottery, the phone will start ringing, DADDY!
At present I'm living with Jan, a wonderful lady, enjoying life, and being thankful for it. As we come rolling up on 60 yrs. of age, (does it seem like it to you?) No matter how much money we've made, how much weight we've gained, or how much hair we've lost, we were once classmates, and may we always remain friends.... class of '65,
Love,Peace, Health,& Happiness,
Ritch
